Our Commitment

Our Mission

At Holy Cross Children's Services, we are committed to:

  • Helping troubled teens through an integrated network of services throughout the state of Michigan; regardless of age, gender, life-style, cultural or ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, social or economic status.
  • Healing children and families to meet the social, emotional, educational and spiritual needs to make them whole again.
  • To focus on a comprehensive approach to treating youth that includes spiritual and moral development, educating hearts and minds.
  • To advocate at local, state and national levels for the allocation of resources to meet all of our youth’s needs.

We are proud to be recognized as one of the most highly dedicated youth and family service providers in Michigan, whose ethics and integrity are unparalleled and by which other service agencies are compared.

HCCS continually strives to find the best ways to serve our children by way of:

  • Contributing to the field through study and publication in national journals.
  • Participation in national and statewide training initiatives.
  • Sponsorship of discussion forums around key issues related to service delivery to vulnerable children and families.
  • Partnering with other private and/or public child welfare entities, in order to bring about positive change and improved services.

  • To be proactive in staffing our communities with the most diverse, innovative, and caring professionals who share our commitment to excellence.
  • Provide the opportunity for positive growth and development in order to develop the skills and abilities needed to become productive and contributing members of society.
  • To seek justice and be an advocate for our most vulnerable youth so that they can remove the barriers in their lives and resurrect their place in the world with the dignity, respect and self-worth they so richly deserve.

Our History

Founded in 1948 as Boysville of Michigan, Inc., at a site and in buildings donated by Henry Ford, HCCS originally began serving Catholic boys with serious home problems. Commencing business in 1998 as Holy Cross Children’s Services to reflect the broadening nature of its mission, HCCS has continued to grow. The Knights of Columbus founded HCCS and made HCCS their principle charitable responsibility. HCCS is a ministry of the Congregation of Holy Cross and was created to help children develop self-esteem and self-reliance, learn academics and develop spiritual values.

We were founded as Boysville of Michigan; officially dedicated on October 24, 1948 by His Eminence Edward Cardinal Mooney. We are now one of the largest, private, statewide, not-for-profit network provider of children’s services in Michigan; servicing 90% of the counties in the state. Our services include: residential campuses and group homes, charter schools, foster care homes, supervised independent living programs, day and residential treatment programs and a variety of community-based services. Currently has offices and service sites in Alpena, Clinton, Detroit, Redford, Saginaw, Mt. Morris, Traverse City, Clinton Township, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.
